What is this program about?

Plan for Learning designs a unique program for each student that strengthens neurodevelopmental learning systems. These individualized plans address how issues with perceptional systems interfere with behavior, academics, and relationship development. Goals are set and measurements are taken to aid in moving toward those individual objectives.

Plan for Learning includes HANDLE® programs as one tool to meet the student’s needs.  The HANDLE Institute is in Seattle, Washington (www.handle.org ) and has been working in the field of neurodevelopment for over a decade.

HANDLE is an acronym:

H is for Holistic

HANDLE is a systems approach, looking at the internal and external environment of an individual and how if affects him or her.

HANDLE programs can interface with most other approaches and disciplines.

HANDLE teaches that nothing stands alone

  • HANDLE believes that behavior is communication
  • HANDLE knows that a standardized approach is a construct, not reality
  •  HANDLE practitioners give nonjudgmental observational assessments
  • HANDLE programs are structured around the concept of Gentle Enhancement®

N D is for Neuro-Development

HANDLE programs take advantage of human’s neuro-plasticity

HANDLE practitioners consider past history & future aspirations when designing programs

HANDLE understands the importance of movement and proper nutrition

L is for Learning

HANDLE addresses all forms of learning

HANDLE realizes that all learning changes brain structure

E is for Efficiency

HANDLE practitioner design programs to increase neural efficiency

HANDLE understands that stressed systems do not get stronger

HANDLE knows that Gentle Enhancement® as the most efficient approach to improvement

Neuro-plasticity- The brain’s natural ability to form new connections in order to compensate for injury or changes in one’s environment.

Gentle Enhancement- This is the technique of slowly and gently increasing stress in the sensory-motor system and stopping when changes in state appear.
